Project #2: Pouf Seating

Hello again! I’m back this week with another project.  This week I’m making crochet pouf seating for my dollies.  I haven’t picked up my crochet hook in some time, but it comes easy to me.  I started crocheting when I was 12 (translation…long-long-long-long time ago.  I never finished anything.  I would create these long chains and didn’t know what to do from there, and I had no one to learn from.  Fast forward several years later when my daughter and I tried to learn knitting when she was about 11.  We just had no patience for it at the time, and it was just one of those things that we couldn’t pick up.  Fast forward again to about 4 years ago and I wanted to start crocheting again. I thank You Tube for getting me started. (who knew that it would be so helpful…thank you YouTubers!)  I began immersing myself in video’s and blogs and just about anything crochet related.  I also got a few books but I found those to be confusing.  I learn best by doing, and if you show me how then I can pick it up, and that’s exactly what I did.

Of course there are no instructions for making a crochet pouf for a doll so I had to get creative.  I figured if I could make it just a little larger than my hand, it would be the right size.  While I had yarn it was the wrong type for this project so off to Micheal’s for some yarn that was closer to cotton.  I searched for some patterns and watched a few tutorials, and this is what I’ve come up with.

I used… 1 skein of yarn + a #9 crochet hook + a large needle + scissors + and Fiber fill

In order to keep the fiber fill in (I’m using what I have on hand which is really meant for stuffed toys so it’s lighter and can seep through the holes), I lined it with batting, then stuffed it.  As I decreased my stitches I added more stuffing.

This is the first pouf, which really looks like a ball, the second is a little smaller and I added a rib stitch to that one.

They both seem to work fine and my dollies can sit on either one.  I’m also going to make a throw blanket, using the same yarn but in a clay color.  I’m hoping to finish that but right now I just want to enjoy my Sunday.

** Thanks so much for visiting, and I’ll be back next week with another project. **
